Drink of the Month
What Valentines Want
Chocolate and PTO; what more could your valentine want? Plenty, I'm
sure, but this drink will get you brownie points no matter what.
-
1 ½ oz. Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
-
1 ½ oz. PTO
-
1 ½ oz. cream
Shake ingredients over ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with shaved chocolate.
Serve with PTO chocolates from Quintessential Chocolates. Ask for them at Whole Foods in Austin and San Antonio.
From Dale Degroff's The Essential Cocktail Long Island Iced Tea
For Mardi Gras, the cocktail that comes to mind is the Hurricane. I found many recipes for it that varied wildly, some containing orange liqueur, some not. I consulted The Essential Cocktail and found Dale's recipe did not.
So I turned to the Long Island Iced Tea, a drink that made properly tastes better than a Hurricane and taken in moderation will not knock you off your bar stool (though it has been known to fuel a pretty wild Mardi Gras party).
-
½ oz. vodka
- ½ oz. gin
- ½ oz. rum
- ½ oz. tequila
- ½ oz. PTO (substituted for triple sec)
- ¾ oz. simple syrup (optional)
- ¾ oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- 3 oz. Coca-Cola
In a mixing glass, combine the vodka, gin, rum, tequila, PTO, syrup, and lemon juice with ice and stir. Strain into a large iced tea glass with ice, top with the Coca-Cola, and stir. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
